Our Story

About A Traveling Cupcake

A Traveling Cupcake is a certified home-based bakery located in the heart of beautiful Nicholasville, Kentucky. We specialize in custom cakes, cupcakes, and cookies — but we’re always excited to bring your sweetest ideas to life, even if they’re not on the menu! Craving banana bread, brownies, or another homemade treat? Just ask — we’d love to satisfy your sweet tooth.

Our bakery may be small, but it’s filled with heart. What began as a humble home project in 2008 has grown into something truly special. Our journey entered a new (and very sweet!) chapter in January 2023, when we launched our sugar cookie decorating workshops. These classes have become one of my favorite ways to connect, create, and have fun — I hope you’ll join us sometime!

You might be wondering how A Traveling Cupcake began…

Grab a cupcake and let me share our story.

Back in 2007, my mother suffered a heart attack and could no longer work. During her recovery, I watched her lose her sense of purpose — something no one as strong and loving as my mom should ever have to feel. One evening, while praying, I thought back to all the times we baked together, especially around Christmas — the laughter, the deep talks, and the joy that filled our kitchen. The next day, Sweet Destinations Bakery(our original name!) was born.

Baking gave my mom her spark again. She may not have been the best decorator, but she could bake like no one else! I watched her plan her baking days, experiment with recipes, and light up with pride when others enjoyed her treats. The bakery gave her purpose, joy, and hope — something I’ll always cherish.

In 2021, my mom’s health began to decline, and I chose to pause the bakery to care for her. Losing her in January 2022 was the hardest thing I’ve ever faced. After taking time to grieve, I realized that baking wasn’t just something we shared — it was my calling. In January 2023, I rebranded and reopened as A Traveling Cupcake in her honor.

This bakery is more than just a business — it’s a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. Because of my mom, I found my passion, and I’m grateful every day to share that passion with you.

Thank you for visiting and supporting A Traveling Cupcake. I can’t wait to bake something sweet for you! 💕
